Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Sumire is one of those low-key gems you stumble upon and instantly feel at ease. The setting is cozy, spotless, and elevated by the kindness of the staff. We sampled a wide range of dishes—from sashimi and spring rolls to tempura, curry rice, and mochi. The standout was without doubt the polpette di polpo, perfectly balanced and full of flavour. The curry, on the other hand, fell flat for me—quite bland compared to the rest. The sashimi was decent, the cucumber with sesame oil refreshingly simple, and the mango mochi a sweet highlight to end on. Even the tableware felt thoughtfully chosen."
"The place is small but comfortable. The service is OK and the servers are very kind. The food is good and it is different from what you usually find in Japanese restaurant in Italy. Lot of curry, either with udon or katsu. I really liked the place and I want to com back to taste something new."
"After lived 1 year in japan, i was looking for a real japanese restaurant, not fusion style like almost all the stores. I had been impressed by this restaurant, i ordered a cold soba that was so delicious, and karage (fried chicken). The store is cozy and very nice, next time i will try other foods. Update, i went again, sushi is amazing, chahan superb. Trust this original japanese restaurant."
"Came here for lunch on a Saturday, we had a great time. The food was super fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend!"
"I visited this place on July 2024 and I really enjoyed the dining experience here - I definitely say this is one of the (if not the) best Japanese authentic restaurants in Milan. We ordered several dishes, including traditional Mochi and Dorayaki as dessert. Staff were super friendly and the service fast, despite the restaurant was at full capacity. Fish quality and dish presentation were both great. I definitely recommend this Japanese restaurant if you are looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience in a familiar and quiet ambience. I would suggest to reserve a table in advance as this place is really popular. The only letdown I encountered here: this place DOES NOT accept American Express credit card and this is a negative impact on Customer Experience. Prices are aligned to the food quality provided and location."
"Every single dish was just excellent and better than most Japanese Restaurants, I have been in the last 15 years. Small place with an extra look for excellence. Great food!"
"One of the better Japanese restaurants in Brera district! They offer an extensive selection of sashimi, nigiri, uramaki and temaki to tempt your palate with. Follow those up with an interesting selection of soba, udon and rice bowls. Or consider the grill options if you prefer. Pro Tip: Don’t take any chances by walking in on a weekend evening - reserve your table in advance!"
"This japanese restaurant offers many options for lunch, almost all below 20€ including some appetizers, steamed rice, water and coffee, very high value! The food is tasty, i will definitely come back again."
